Fearsome Werecreatures: An In-Depth Look At Transformative Creatures On The Boiling Isles
Written by Cranach Matthias of the Beast Keeping Coven
Basic Overview
Lycanthropes, colloquially known to witches as werewolves, are a fearsome creature thought to be entirely deprived of compassion and empathy. Minimal study has been undertaken to understand these aggressive creatures as they are extremely hostile and known to devour witches and demons alike. They are said to inhabit the darkest depths of the forests across the Isle.
Regarding Magic
Studies have shown that werewolves are incapable of using magic. There is no known form of magic which they can harness. It has also been documented that werewolves seem to have an immunity to magic. They are not at all receptive to it. It is as though magic does not exist for them. Spells, potions and curses cast against them are ineffective. Rather, witches and demons are instructed to make use of weapons rather than magic, most importantly the element of silver. It appears that it burns werewolves at the mere touch.
Diet
As far as we are aware, werewolves eat everything. They have devoured all manner of creature. They are considered to be solely carnivorous. They eat large quantities of food and appear to be social diners. Werewolves eat together in groups and can pick a carcass clean in minutes. They are efficient and thorough.
Social Interactions
From what has been observed, werewolves have a surprisingly complex social system; they are known for living in large groups—which we have dubbed 'packs'—in which many generations of werewolves can be found. It would appear that elderwolves care for pups and the entire community will assist in raising the young. Despite their aggressive tendencies towards outsiders, they are astonishingly kind and nurturing towards their own. We have witnessed grooming, playing and even cuddling! Hard to believe such creatures can be capable of such gentleness. Werewolves have also shown impressive tactical behaviour when hunting. They truly are one of the most adept strategists on the Isle. It is rather unsettling.
Hierarchy
It is believed that werewolves are a matriarchal society. They have a single leader who oversees the entire community, of which there are several on the Isle. We are aware that the largest of these clans are distinguished by their most prominent fur colour. From this we know that the largest bands are the Reds, Blacks, Whites and Greys. Each of these large clans have a female leader, and her successor will come from her lineage. These leaders have enforcers, large and imposing elderwolves, who administer her will. This helps keep the communities balanced and functional. Each werewolf knows their place within the community and the role which they play. These large clans are made up of numerous families, all of which work harmoniously with one another, living within shared settlements.
Appearance and Transformation
Werewolves, like all werebeasts, are known for their ability to shapeshift without the use of magic. It is unknown how this transformation can occur without the implementation of magic, but they are fully capable of doing so from birth. It would seem that younger pups may have difficultly controlling this alteration to their physical form, but become more adept at it over time. Witches once believed that werewolves were cursed members of their own who would take on their monstrous forms under the light of a full moon...but evidence has shown that werewolves have full control over their transformations and can do so at will regardless of environmental factors.

When not in their monstrous form, they appear very witch-like, and are capable of walking among us without our knowledge. It is rather difficult to identify a werewolf in witch skin as they look very convincing. Their monstrous forms, however, vary in size and can be quite large! Even adolescent werewolves are twice the size of a witchling. Some massive werewolves have been documented before.
Romance and Reproduction
Very little is known about werewolf romance or reproduction. They are very allusive creatures at the best of times, and extremely aggressive towards outsiders the rest. It is known that werewolves often produce one to three pups per pregnancy and that they are not often pregnant. They manage their populations very strategically. It is believed that werewolves are monogamous and mate for life. More research is necessary before we can have conclusive information.
Werewolves are not currently an accessible player species.
